Overview

This article provides information to administrators about additional functions available when setting up conditional logic on forms.

Additional Functions

In addition to the general information covered in the article titled Conditional Logic Basics, there are other features and functions when configuring conditional logic.

Duplicating

Duplicating form fields with conditional logic is efficient when creating multiple form fields of the same type using the same conditional logic.

For example, suppose a different multi-select form field listing areas of specialties should show based on each major of study selected.  The conditional logic can be built for one list of specialties according to the response of one major, like Accounting, then the list duplicated, moved, edited and the conditional logic adjusted to correspond with the response of each major, instead of having to rebuild the conditional logic for every response.  (Please see the article titled Copy a Form Field for those instructions.)

The duplicate function is especially useful when more complex conditional logic needs to be copied.

Here is what the above example would look like:

  1. Select the form field with the conditional logic to duplicate; a multi-select form field is shown in the example below.

  1. Select the Duplicate Field icon.

  1. An exact copy of the form field is added to the form directly below the original form field.

  1. Edit the form field configurations as needed; in this example, the specialties are changed from Accounting to Nursing.

  1. Select the Add Display Logic icon.

  1. In the Display Logic window, change the Response dropdown selection to Nursing.

  1. Select the Done button to complete the conditional logic configuration for the form field.

  1. Select the Save button on the form field to save the conditional logic.

--- REMEMBER ---

When duplicating fields with conditional logic, the form field type is duplicated as well; conditional logic cannot be copied from one form field type to a different form field type.

The Display Logic Window

For any of the following functions, it is assumed that the Display Logic window is open for the form field being configured with conditional logic.

To open the Display Logic window for any form field:

  1. Select the form field that needs conditional logic.  A multi-select form field is shown in the example below.

  1. Select the Add Display Logic icon.

The Display Logic window opens; it is from this window where the following actions are taken.

Change the Name of a Group

After a conditional logic group is created, the name can be edited.

To change the name of a group:

  1. With the Display Logic window open, select anywhere within the title default group name.

  1. Select all the text to delete it or type over it.

  1. Edit the text as desired.  The group name is changed to CA Accounting Specialties in the example.

  1. Select anywhere outside the group name to accept the name.

Ungroup

After a conditional logic group is created for a form field, it can be ungrouped, if needed.

To ungroup a conditional logic group, select the Ungroup button in the upper right corner of the group section.

The conditions are now ungrouped.

Delete a Condition

If a condition is no longer needed, it can be deleted, even if it is part of a group.

To delete a condition, select the red trash can icon to the right of the condition line.  In the example shown below, the condition asking about the applicant’s residential state needs to be deleted.

The line has been deleted.

Add More Conditions Outside a Group

Once a group of conditions is created, additional conditions can be added to the form field’s conditional logic rules.

In the following example, a conditional group has already been created to reveal the form field if the candidate selects either California or Hawaii as their residential state.  A new condition needs to be added that only reveals the form field if the residential state is California or Hawaii and their major is Accounting.

To add more conditions outside an existing group:

  1. Select the +Add button in the lower left corner.

  1. A new condition line has been added; configure it as needed.

--- REMEMBER ---

If another condition is required within an existing group, use the small + icon to the right of any line in the group.

The new condition now needs to be connected to the existing group so Next understands the relationship between the conditions.  Note that the Done button is not selectable until the setup is complete.

  1. Select the checkboxes to the left of both the existing group and the new condition.

  1. Select the Create Logical Group button.

A new logical group is created between the original group and the new condition.

  1. When a logical group is created, the rule of And or Or is applied.  In this example, select And since the form field should only display if both criteria of either of the two residential states and the Accounting major are selected.

  1. Select the Done button to complete the conditional logic configuration for the form field.

  1. Select the Save button on the form field to save the conditional logic.

--- REMEMBER ---

Any time additions or edits are made to the conditional logic, the form field needs to be saved.

Remove Conditional Logic

If the conditional logic is no longer needed for a form field, it can be removed quickly and easily.

To remove conditional logic:

  1. With the Display Logic window open, select the Remove Logic button.

  1. A confirmation popup appears asking to confirm the removal of the conditional logic; to continue, select the Remove button.

  1. The conditional logic has been completely removed from the form field.

--- IMPORTANT ---

Using the Remove Logic button deletes ALL the conditional logic for the form field.  If only part of the conditions should be removed, use the red trash can to the right of the condition line within the Display Logic window. (See the Delete a Condition section above for those steps.)
