Overview

This step-by-step guide shows Program Admins how to add budget categories to an award cycle in Next.

⚠️IMPORTANT: You can only add budget categories to an award cycle if Budgets are enabled for your organization. To add Budgets, please contact Customer Success. 


What is Category Selection?

Category selection is where you choose which budget categories are available for an award cycle. The categories you add here are what applicants see when filling out a budget in the intake form, and what awardees select when submitting (logging) expenses

  • Who can add budget categories to a cycle?
    • Organization Owners
    • Client Admins
    • Program Owners
    • Program Managers

Before You Start

The Organization Owner or Client Admin must set up at least one category in your organization's budget before you can add categories to a cycle. See ➡️Setting Up Budgets.
 


Step-By-Step Instructions 

Go to Categories

  1. Open the award cycle (Program Settings >  All Award Cycles > Click Open next to the cycle)


     
  2. On the Cycle Settings screen, click Financials in the top menu. Select Categories from the left menu. 


Add Categories to the Award Cycle

  1. Click Select Categories. A pop-up appears.


     
  2. Select the checkbox next to each category you want to add. 
    💡Tip: If you have a lot list of categories, use the search bar at the top to find categories by name.

 

  1. Click Add Selected Categories.
    ⚠️ IMPORTANT: Once a category is added to a cycle, it cannot be removed (but it can remain unused, if desired).



    The selected categories appear in the Expense Categories table.
