Overview

This article covers how to create a new program and configure the Program Setup page in Next.

🎥 Quick Video Walkthrough

Watch this short video for a quick overview of the setup process before diving into the steps below.

Create a New Program

To create a new program, follow these steps:

  1. Logged in as an Organization Owner, from the Programs screen, select the green Create New Program button located in the upper right area of the screen.

--- REMEMBER ---

Only the Organization Owner will be able to create new programs.

  1. In the popup window, enter:

a. The name or title of the program.

b. The unique URL slug will automatically generate as the name or title of the program is entered above, but it can be changed.

c. The type of program (select from the dropdown list).

d. A program description (optional).

e. Designate a Program Owner from a dropdown list of active program members.  If the list is blank, the Organization Owner will default to the Program Owner until the role is reassigned to another active program member.  When the Program Owner role is assigned, that individual will receive an email inviting them to manage the program.  (See the article titled Change Program Owner (coming soon) for those steps.)

f. Select the green Create Program button at the bottom of the popup window to complete the initial setup.

  1. A popup message appears at the top of the screen confirming the creation of the program.

  1. The new program will populate in the list of programs.

  1. Within the box that shows the title of the new program, select Program Settings to jump to the Program Setup page to continue to configure the settings of the new program.

Program Setup Page

The Program Setup page is found under Program Settings and is where general information about the program is located and edited, if needed; Organization Owners, Program Owners, and Program Managers have access to this page.

The Program Setup page displays with sections, some of which are expandable.

General

The General section holds basic details about the program.

To expand the section, select anywhere in the section header.

To configure the General section:

  1. Enter or edit the name of the program in the field labeled What is the name or title of this Program?

  1. The field labeled What type of Program is this? is a dropdown selection menu; edit as needed by selecting one of the options.

  1. The rich text editor in the General section provides the opportunity to include a short description of the program.  As with all rich text editors within Next, the text has multiple formatting options, along with other available elements to include such as links and images.

  1. While configuring a program, keep the program inactive.  Designating a program as active only changes how the program appears on the list of programs to administrators and is not related to the program’s visibility to potential end users or applicants.

  1. Designate if the program is an invitation-only program.  Please see the article titled Invite Only Programs (coming soon) for more information about those types of programs.

To collapse the General section, select the arrow at the top of its section header.

Award Listing

The Award Listing section is where all awards for the program are named, regardless of in what cycle they are used.

To expand the section, select anywhere in the section header.

To configure the Award Listing section:

  1. A default award will already be listed as “Default Award Title.”

a. Select the default title name.

b. Type the actual name or title of the award that is available through the program.

c. Select the Return/Enter key on the keyboard or select anywhere outside the text box to accept the new name.

  1. To add more awards:

a. Type the name or title of the next award in the Add Another Award… box.

b. Select the + symbol to the right of the award name to add it.

  1. Repeat the previous step for each award for the program.

--- REMEMBER ---

The award names within all of the program’s cycles are named here first before they can be added to a cycle.  If cycles are added at a later date, their award names need to be added here before they can be configured in the cycle.

To collapse the Award Listing section, select the arrow at the top of its section header.

Program URL

This section is not expandable as it only displays the program’s URL.  Please note that the program’s URL cannot be copied until at least one program cycle is published.  (Please see the article titled Publish a Progam (coming soon) for more information.)

Adjust the program’s URL slug, if needed.  Remember that the URL should be all lowercase with no special characters.

Test Cycle URLs

The Test Cycle URLs section populates automatically with the URLs to any program cycles that are put into Test Mode.  (Please see the article titled Test Mode vs Publish and Test Mode Best Practices for more information about Test Mode.)

To expand the section, select anywhere in the section header.

After a program cycle is put into Test Mode, Next automatically populates a URL for that test cycle in this section.

--- REMEMBER ---

Test Cycle URLs are for testing purposes only and will not be visible on the Programs page that applicants or award candidates see.

To collapse the Test Cycle URLs section, select the arrow at the top of its section header.

Saving

Changes to items or settings on the Program Setup page do not save automatically.  After making any changes to this page, select the blue Save Changes button located at the top right of the screen.

A notification briefly appears confirming that the changes are saved.
