Overview

This step-by-step guide shows applicants how to submit a Progress Report in Next.

What Is a Progress Report?

Some programs require you to submit reports after you receive an award. A post-award report is a form you complete to show the program administrator how your project is going — like what you've accomplished, how you've used your funding, and whether you are on track to meet your goals.

If your award requires reports, you will use the “Reports” tab in your award to manage them. Reports are submitted on a schedule set by your program. For example, quarterly, or at key project milestones. Missing a deadline may affect your funding, so it’s important to track your due dates.

Some programs also use disbursements, which are payments released to you from your awarded funding. In Next, some disbursements have report dependencies. This means they won't be released until a linked progress report has been submitted and approved. Check your award agreement for details.

Before You Begin

  • You need an accepted award to view or submit progress reports. If you still need to accept an award, see ➡️How to Accept an Award (coming soon).

Step-By-Step Instructions

View Your Reports

  1. Log in to your portal, and click Your Awards in the top menu.

  2. On the Awards page, click the hyperlinked award name, or click View on the far-right of the award you want to open.

  3. In the screen that opens, select the Reports tab from the top.

  • You'll see a list of all required reports for that award, including due dates and current status.

If you have more than one accepted award under the same program, this list shows reports for all of them together. Use the Award Name column to tell which report belongs to which award.

Status Definitions & Next Steps

Complete & Submit a Report

If your award has an amendment in progress, you can't start a new report until the amendment is complete. Reports you already started (in "Draft" status) can still be submitted.
  1. Click the hyperlinked Report Name to open the report.

  2. Complete all required fields marked with an asterisk (*).

Click Save as Draft in the upper-right corner of the screen to save your progress → Your report status updates to “Draft,” and you can return to finish the report later.

3. When you're finished, click Submit in the upper-right corner of the screen.

If you haven't completed all required fields, you'll get an error message and the report won't submit. Complete the missing fields, and click Submit again.

You cannot edit the report once you submit it.

  1. In the confirmation pop-up, click Submit.

  • A confirmation pop-up appears. Click Return to Reports to return to your full report list.

What Happens After You Submit a Report?

Once you submit your report, its status updates to “Submitted.”

From there, your program administrator can:

  • Approve the report: You'll get an email notification. No further action is needed from you.

  • Request revisions: You'll get an email notification and must make changes and resubmit. See ➡️ Respond to a Progress Report Revision Request (coming soon).

  • Reject the report: You'll get an email notification. No further action can be taken.
